Founded in 1977 and acquired by the current owners in 1991, The Macomb Group has differentiated itself from competitors by continually expanding our operations to provide unbeatable specialty services, a huge inventory, energy-efficient solutions, and exceptional customer service.
We pride ourselves on being a family and friend oriented business which started long before 1991. Our CEO Bill McGivern and Executive Vice President Keith Schatko first met while playing little league together. Years later, as fate would have it, both Schatko and McGivern were working at what was then known as Macomb Pipe & Supply to help pay for college tuition. Although they knew they wanted to become business owners, they also knew how important warehouse operations were to the success of a company so they learned all they could. They started by sweeping floors, packing orders, familiarizing themselves with the products and working the sales counter. When the time came, McGivern and Schatko, together with then-partner Doug Howe purchased the company.
The road to success was paved with challenges though. They came in early, stayed late and worked weekends to get the new era of the company off the ground. The big break came in 1997 with the building of the McNamara Passenger Terminal at Detroit Metro Airport and the award of a contract for the bulk of the materials. That same year we started to expand and acquire businesses outside of Michigan. By 2003 we started the process of uniting affiliated companies under one veteran management team and master brand known as The Macomb Group. Even today we continue to expand our operations.
Our headquarters in Sterling Heights, Michigan, is sustained by a state-of-the-art energy conscious building with an expansive 300,000 square foot warehouse. We have 30 service branches and over 700 employees in 11 states including Michigan, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin. These operations are strategically located to provide the best inter-branch support possible, meaning our customers in most major urban markets receive same- or next-day access to materials. This high level of accessibility and customer service has landed us in the top 10 nationally as a distributor of industrial PVF and has made us a leading PVF participant in our geographic market.
Our customers come from a diverse mix of end markets, including automotive (OEMs and suppliers), food and beverage, general manufacturing, hospitals, schools and universities, pharmaceutical, utilities, power plants, steel, pulp and paper, refineries, general industry, gas distribution, and the shale/fracking industries. In order to serve such a wide variety of customers, we've spent the past 30 years focusing on organic and acquisitive growth.
Currently, we serve our customers through diverse offerings from the following specialty services and divisions:
For every need, the driving philosophy at The Macomb Group is to provide superior customer service. We're committed to being a value-added distributor to our customers, not just another company selling PVF products. Our staff prides itself on finding cost-effective solutions for every customer in any industry or application. This principle enhances customer satisfaction and supports strong long-term relationships with our clients - which is why we're here. At The Macomb Group, we want to be the one-stop source for all of your PVF, plumbing, hydronics, instrumentation, actuated valve, boiler, hot water heater, fire protection, insulation, wastewater, and hose assembly needs!
